Chimney Rock Park is a 1,000 acre natural scenic attraction located on Highway 64/74A about 25 miles southeast of Asheville, and about 18 miles east of Hendersonville, North Carolina. Chimney Rock Park is situated in beautiful Hickory Nut Gorge near the towns of Chimney Rock Village and Lake Lure. The Park has been privately owned by the Morse family since 1902 and is not part of the National Park system. We receive no federal or state subsidies to underwrite upkeep and maintenance of the Park and trail system.
The views from Chimney Rock are accessible to everyone. Visitors may reach the summit by trail and stairs or by riding an elevator built into the mountain that transports guests 26 stories in 30 seconds. Three different trails lead to the 404-foot Hickory Nut Falls. This sheer drop, twice the height of Niagara Falls, was featured as a backdrop in the movie "Last of the Mohicans". Other points of interest include Devil's Head, Moonshiner's Cave, Needle's Eye, the family-friendly Meadows Trail, and a Nature Center which houses permanent exhibits depicting historical, geological, and botanical aspects of the Park.
Guests can enjoy many picnic areas, including some with grills, throughout the Park. A hiker's lunch, available in the Sky Lounge Snack Bar and the Old Rock Café, may be purchased and enjoyed at the park. It includes a deli sandwich with lettuce and tomato, pickle, chips, dessert and choice of cold drink, and comes in a souvenir canvas bag. Guests may also dine in the Old Rock Café located at the entrance to the park while enjoying the sites and sounds of the Rocky Broad River.
Chimney Rock hosts several workshops, concerts, hikes and other special events throughout the year. Please visit www.chimneyrockpark.com for a complete calendar of events.
