In the spotlight
As a proud “Mema,” Danna Killough Smith is always looking out for the safety of her grandbabies.
“My daughter mentioned that her growing 4-year-old, Foster, was in need of a new car seat and she found a particular model she liked at Target,” said Smith of Columbus, NC.
“Instead of purchasing in the store, I decided to use my 10 percent member discount at AAA.com/target,” raved Smith, a AAA member since 1982.
Not only did she get the discount, but shipping was free for this particular item.
“My grandson’s new car seat arrived quickly, and Foster is so proud to ride in his new ‘big boy’ seat. He even picked out the color for himself,” she added.
AAA partners with more than 150,000 merchant locations to offer discounts to members who show their card when making a purchase. For a complete list of AAA-exclusive discounts, visit AAA.com/save or stop by your local AAA branch office.

Protecting Yourself from Identity Theft
With tax season here, identity thieves are working overtime to steal personal information. Residents of the Carolinas registered more than 8,000 reports of identity theft in 2006 with five North Carolina cities making the list of the top 50 most affected cities (Thomasville-Lexington, Dunn, Durham, Salisbury and Goldsboro).
Todd Davis, CEO of LifeLock, the industry leader in identity theft prevention, offers these tips:
Choose your tax preparer carefully. Ask friends and coworkers whom they use. Be cautious of preparers’ promises of bigger returns.
Beware of unsolicited emails claiming to be from the IRS. The IRS reported receiving over 30,000 messages regarding fraudulent emails disguised as official IRS communications. These emails often contain links that automatically download malicious software designed to steal your passwords and account information.
Protect your Social Security number. Don’t give out your Social Security number if it’s not necessary. If a business, doctor or financial institution asks for your number, ask why they need it and try to substitute another identifier.
Among other processes, LifeLock uses “locks” to set and automatically renew fraud alerts with major credit bureaus and remove members’ names from pre-approved credit card offers and junk mail lists.
To find out how LifeLock can protect you from identity theft and to receive 30 days free and 15% off, visit AAA.com/
