The skiing in Breckenridge, Colorado was great this past December but when Doug Galloway and his daughters were ready to fly home to Bluffton, South Carolina, when they learned their flight was cancelled due to a major snow storm.
“The prospect of spending the Christmas Holiday away from home looked like a near certainty,” recalled Galloway, 57, a AAA Carolinas member since 1995.
A slim ray of hope existed if the group could drive to Houston, Texas in time to catch a connecting flight there to South Carolina.
Remembering his AAA membership card, Galloway called AAA’s customer service number and asked for assistance in finding a clear, open route from Breckenridge to Houston.
Many roads were closed and Galloway was warned by fellow travelers and locals not to check out of the hotel, because of problems getting out of the snow covered area.
AAA, however, faxed a TripTik® to the hotel in about 15 minutes.
“We followed the route she (the Drive Vacation Specialist laid out to Houston, encountered only minimal snow covered roads and made it safely to our flight back to South Carolina,” said Galloway.
Galloway said he regularly paid his AAA dues, despite never using the services.
“This one experience more than made up for all those years,” said Galloway. “Thank you to the fine lady that helped us, she is a credit to your organization. Many of our friends and family have asked about our adventure and we are happy to say that we couldn’t have done it without the help of AAA.” |
