Both the Wilmington and Southern Pines offices of AAA Carolinas will host free child passenger safety seat checks and vehicle safety checks as part of Safe Driving Days in September and October.

The Wilmington event will be Friday, Sept. 8, and the Southern Pines event will be Friday, Oct. 6. Both will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Those in the Wilmington area can go to the branch office at #3 Hanover Center, 3501 Oleander Drive - in the Hanover Shopping Center on Oleander Drive, across from Westfield Shopping Mall. Appointments for a passenger safety seat check are encouraged and can be made by calling 910-763-8446.

Southern Pines area residents can visit the office at 171 Beverly Lane, in the Fresh Market Shopping Center. Make seat check appointments by calling 910-693-0335.

Appointments are not needed for the vehicle safety check, which will include looking at a vehicle’s tires, windshield wipers, lights, belts, hoses, air filter and battery.

Attendees will receive a written evaluation of their vehicle’s safety, and parents will be instructed on the installation of their child’s passenger safety seat.

North Carolina law requires children 8 years old and younger and weighing up to 80 pounds to be in some type of child restraint when riding in a car.
