Pop Century is Disney’s newest Value Resort. It is located adjacent to the Wide World of Sports complex near the Disney-MGM Studios and is a whomping 177-acre complex. Construction is taking place in two phases, with the “Classic Years” up and running. Phase II will be the “Legendary Years”. When complete, Pop Century will have 5,760 rooms, 20 four-story buildings and six pools!

Phase I – the Classic Years takes guests on a journey through the popular culture of the 1950s through the 1990s. The resort designed is modeled after the existing All-Star Value Resorts. Each Pop Century building features larger-than-life icons of pop culture fads, dance crazes, toys and lingo.

The 1950s buildings have sock-hoppers dancing across the front, a 40-foot tabletop jukebox and a bowling pin shaped pool. The 60s employ psychedelic and tie-dyed colors plus Play-Doh and yo-yo icons. The pool here takes on a ‘flower power’ motif.

The 70s brings a Big Wheel large enough for an 877-pound ‘child’, gigantic table soccer players and 8-track tapes (remember those?). With the 80s you’ll see a 41 foot tall Rubik’s Cube and a Sony Walkman while the 90s pay tribute to the ‘hot’ technology of the day: laptop computers and cell phones. These decades share a computer shaped pool.

Rooms have two double beds or one king bed and will sleep up to 4 persons comfortably. There is also a small table with two chairs. The bath has one sink in a vanity area outside, and there’s a 27” color TV and in-room safe. Furnishings appropriate for each decade continue the resort’s theming right into the guest rooms.

As with the All-Star Resorts, there is a food court with five different counter-service options, but no full-service restaurant. The pools are huge, heated and well themed, but do not offer a waterslide. Transportation to other Disney destinations is by bus only.
