Disney's Port Orleans - Riverside, re-creates the rustic bayous and antebellum mansions found in Mississippi River communities of the 1800's.
The resort contains two distinct areas, each representing a lifestyle typified in the Old South. Alligator Bayou contains two-story lodges, styled with a Cajun feel, while Magnolia Bend is comprised of three-story plantation style mansions. Each area maintains its own landscaping and room decor consistent with its theming. The rooms in both areas contain two double beds and sleep up to four. There are some rooms in the Alligator Bayou section which also house a child's trundle bed, thus sleeping up to four adults and one child.
The main recreation area, called Ole Man Island, hosts a pool with a waterslide and waterfall. There's also a playground here as well as an old fashioned fishing hole. You can really fish here by renting cane poles (for catch and release).
Boatwright's is the full service restaurant and plays off the resort's theming by offering Cajun specialties in addition to American favorites. This restaurant now services guests at the French Quarter also, so reservations for breakfast and dinner are a must. The food court houses a waterwheel cotton press that actually works. The food here is fast and full of variety.
Disney's Port Orleans - Riverside offers a lot of bang for the buck. The variety of on-site recreational activities, Ole Man Island, and the superior theming really make it a value. You can upgrade to a river view and have a luxury setting for a fraction of the cost of Disney's Deluxe Resorts. Guests staying at Disney's Port Orleans-Riverside can even use the pool facilities at its sister hotel, Disney's Port Orleans-French Quarter.
This resort is very popular with young families and it can get rambunctious, especially during peak seasons. Its proximity to Downtown Disney® makes nightlife and dining convenient.
Buses are the mode of transportation to the major theme parks and are typically very efficient, but even they can get uncomfortably crowded during peak seasons. Having a car can cut your commuting time, especially if you plan to visit the water parks or dine at other resorts' restaurants. |
