Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is a resort like no other among Disney's resort properties. It is located adjacent to Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park and its most exciting feature is the ability to view live animals right from your room!
Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge recreates the feel of a South African wildlife reserve lodge. Rooms follow the Kraal African Village design - they are constructed in a semi-circle. This allows up to 80% of the Lodge's rooms to offer a 'close-up' view of hundreds of animals living on a savannah.
There are three savannahs surrounding the Lodge. These areas were built specifically for Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and its guests. Different savannah areas play host to different types of animals. Each savannah has its own, unique viewing area, plus there is a 4-story observation window overlooking the savannah in the Lodge's cavernous lobby. More than 100 birds and animals call this savannah area home. Look out for giraffes, zebras, ostriches and Thompson's gazelles. These animals have the freedom to roam within a 100 yards or so of the Lodge itself (don't worry you, and the animals, are protected by an elaborate, and unobtrusive, security system). You can go on safari from your own balcony!
The room decor follows the African theme and features rich tapestries, jewel-toned colors, and hand-carved furnishings. The rooms are typically furnished with two queen beds; King beds and rooms with one queen and a set of bunk beds are also available. All rooms have balconies.
While a majority of rooms offer savannah views, other views are available: standard (parking lot view), pool view and concierge. As you might expect, you pay more for a savannah view. If you absolutely, totally must have a savannah view room, be sure to specify that when booking. As you can imagine, these rooms are extremely popular and book first.
There are two full-service restaurants and one quick serve eatery on the premises. All feature African-inspired menus. Not to worry, however, there are plenty of classic American offerings for those not fond of ethnic food.
There is only one pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge but it is HUGE! It has the obligatory waterslide and a zero-entry design, and the view from the pool deck is almost unbelievable. There is a kiddie pool and two whirlpools in the pool area.
Have you always been intrigued by the idea of an African safari? Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is the closest you can come to a safari experience without leaving the good ole USA. |
