Walt Disney World® has a vast fleet of transportation options that move guests throughout the property.

If you plan to spend your entire trip at Walt Disney World® - with no trips to other areas of Orlando - there is probably no need to rent a car. However, the internal Disney transportation system is first and foremost designed to take guests back and forth from their hotel to the major theme parks. This system is very efficient and you'll find some form of transportation from your on-property hotel to a theme park every 15-20 minutes.

The Walt Disney World® transportation system is not, however, as efficient in getting guests from their hotel to Disney's various shopping/nightlife areas or the Disney water parks, or from resort hotel to resort hotel for that matter. Getting to these areas can involve various forms of Disney transportation, most notably buses. And, these transports can involve out-of-the-way routes and changing buses to reach your final destination. So, if your plans involve dining at different resort hotels, sampling the nightlife, or visiting water parks, allow enough time to reach this type of destination using the complex Disney transportation system, or consider renting a car.

If you plan to visit other Orlando-area attractions or want to dine 'off-World', a car is a must.

Whether you choose to rent a car depends a lot upon you and whom you're traveling with. If you hate to wait and travel on someone else's timetable, you'll be happier renting a car. It will save you and your traveling companions a lot of grief! And, if you have toddlers with strollers, or are using wheelchairs or ECVs, a car can be extremely convenient in getting those necessities to and from your destinations.
