Spacious and uncrowded, Castaway Cay exists for the exclusive use of Disney Cruise Line passengers. Since Disney is the sole owner of this island, this oasis has been beautifully developed with special touchs that only Disney can imagine. The ship docks right at the island allowing you to walk directly from the ship to the shore. You can walk to the beaches or catch one of the many trams provided.
Like Disney’s ships, Castaway Cay is designed to appeal to all ages. The island is divided into separate are for adults, families, kids and teens.
The largest area is the Family Beach. A wonderful expanse of white sand beach with chairs, chaises and umbrellas for the family to enjoy. Here you can lie in the sun, swim, play in the sand or rent snorkel equipment to explore the reef that Disney created. It contains a sunken boat and some other Disney-type surprises (like fish!).
Serenity Bay is the adults-only beach. It is small (chairs and umbrellas go quickly so get there early), but lovely. It’s relaxing and peaceful. If you have arranged for a Cabana Massage through the Vista Spa, this is where it is located. You reach Serenity Bay by catching a tram. You can walk, but it’s a haul.
On Castaway Cay, the Oceaneer’s Club and Lab move ashore to Scuttle’s Cove. There is a special inland beach area for sand play and nature activities, plus a ‘dig’ for whale bones at Monstro’s Point.
The Teen beach lies just beyond the family beach. It contains swim floats, a rope swing, and an in-water jungle gym. Teens can explore their own beach turf as well as take part in supervised activities.
Lunch is served at Cookies and is a traditional barbeque-type fare (hamburgers, ribs, hot dogs, etc.) buffet. The lines can get rather long right at opening, so you may want to wait a bit. If you’re starving, look around, folks tend to congregate in a couple of lines even when others are open and shorter. In addition, there are several open-air bars located throughout the island.
